Newsletter May 2012
We have been very busy little bees this month and have a lot to share with our fans. We had our first contest sponsored by Halo SleepSack, we have added new administrators to the page, among other things.
Meet the people behind PAUSE
Stacey Bogle {Founder}
Stacey Bogle started PAUSE April 2010 after her son Jaleel died in 2006 at 26 days old while bed sharing. The hope was to educated parents and caregivers on how deadly bed share can be. She currently lives in Waterville, Maine with her Husband Jason and has 2 living children Michaela, 13 and Nick, 12 and their 3 cats Gage, Marley, and Chance. Stacey will be going back to school in the fall to work on her MSW (Master's in Social Work) to work for an agency that educates on safe sleep for babies and to help even more people.
Sara Tamburrino {Administrator}
Sara Tamburrino has a bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology. She also works for SIDS Resources, Inc. in Missouri as a program coordinator. Sara lost her son Carl when they were bed sharing in 1992. His death was labeled as SIDS but she now believes he might have died as a direct result from bed sharing. Sara is married to Tim and is very busy with helping families who have suffered a loss from SIDS or SUID and educating on safe sleep.
Jessica Gordon {Graphic Designer}
Jessica Gordon lost her son Payton in 2011 when they were breast feeding in bed. Jessica did not bed share with her son but one night she was feeding him in bed and fell asleep, when she woke up it was too late he was already gone. Jessica found us from CAUSE (Coalition Against Unsafe Sleep Environments) and they sent her our way. Jessica does a wonderful job on our logo and anything we need for graphics for PAUSE. She does an amazing job and glad to have her with us. Jessica lives in Joliet, Illnois with her boyfriend Matt and their 2 dogs Murphy and Macy and Paton's kitty Bose. She is educating on safe sleep in memory of Payton in her town and online.
Winners of our 1st Contest
WE had our first contest to give away 2 Halo SleepSack crib sets. One of the contest was on our FB page where fans submitted why they believed safe sleep for babies is important, and one contest on pinterest where fans submitted pictures of their babies sleeping safely. Then people would vote for their favorite picture or safe sleep blurb. I have to see the FB contest got very interesting in the end. We had 2 safe sleep blurbs that were getting votes that surpassed the 100 like mark. It was very close for Amanda Sadler who was trying to win for when her and her husband have their second child, and Kelsey Redmond who is currently pregnant with her first child, she is due in September.
FaceBook Safe Sleep Blurb Winner
Congratulations to Kelsey Redmond, our winner for a Halo SleepSack Crib set! This was her entry on why safe sleep is important to her...
"Infants depend on us to keep them safe. As one of the most vulnerable species in infancy, it is critical for adults to keep their infants safe at all times, including when the are asleep. When people think of "safe sleep", the majority think of the Back to Sleep Campaign, which is a huge piece of safe sleep, but not the entire picture. I don't feel like today's society is educated on all the essential pieces of Safe Sleep, and advertising in local stores, commercials and magazines does the exact opposite of encouraging safe sleep. I am currently pregnant, and I can tell you from first hand experience every store and magazine I have looked at shows cribs set up with thick bumpers, heavy blankets, and sometimes cute stuffed animals set upon the corner of the crib. In addition, there are thousands of items the claims to "reduce the risk of SIDS" which in actuality does the exact opposite. It gives caregivers a false sense of security that since they are using these items, their baby cannot die of SIDS. Sadly, they are probably putting their baby more at risk than if they just followed the simple rules of "Safe Sleep". Babies depend on us. They don't care about blankets, bumpers and stuffed animals. They care about surviviing and they can't do it without us."

A quote from one of our Fans:
"A bit of a 'fan testimony' if you will: :)Stacey, Jaleel's mommy & creator of this page is an amazing woman. I was sitting here wondering how on earth I'm going to come up with my own crib or place for my son to sleep by August... and Stacey saw that. She messaged me saying she would do anything she could to help, & she did! A few phone calls were made, and then this morning I received a phone call from a nice lady somewhere in my state who runs an orginization, telling me my pack & play will be delivered before Matthew is born! Thank you, thank you, thank you for everything you do. It may seem kind of silly but it actually gives me hope that the world we live in isn't that bad of a place - when someone you've never met is so willing to reach out & help, especially when they don't have to. I can't thank you enough. ♥"
A am so glad we could help out Leah and her baby to make sure he has a safe place to sleep!
